"The Sportoletti family, who have been farmers for generations, have always been passionately dedicated to wine production. Towards the end of the 1970s, the brothers Ernesto and Remo, reaping the benefits of what their father Vittorio taught them, decided to dedicate themselves exclusively to wine production. In 1979 the first one thousand bottles were produced with their own label. Since then they have constantly been researching the perfect balance between innovation and tradition, using their skills to take the best advantage of the potential of the land-the hills between Spello and Assisi- where their 30 hectares of vineyard are situated."
"The 2013 Villa Fidelia is a wonderful Bordeaux blend, that tastes of Umbria. It opens with power and bursts with cherries, flowers, spices, leather, cigar box and the finishes with notes of balsalmic. The wine stands out for its brightness and balance, with less persistence in the mid-palate. Overall, the result is a lighter Villa Fidelia, which finds its highest expression relatively early. This wine is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc and benefits from one year in oak. It is a pleasure to find Sportoletti in the U.S. market. The new vintages are all highly recommended. In addition to this, they have an excellent quality/price ratio. Antonio Galloni of Vinous Media describes Sportoletti as one of Umbria's "leading properties" and welcomed the wines back into the US market: Sportoletti is one of Umbria's leading properties. Consulting oenologist Riccardo Cotarella oversees winemaking, but these delicious wines stand out for the qualities of the raw materials as much as they do for what goes on in the cellar." 95 Points
